Identifier-based patient deduplication
When a shared patient identifier is available, we’ll match across EHRs and other data sources based on that identifier. Duplicate patients are resolved to a single patient based on the identifier.
We can use identifiers like a medical record number or another identifier you create to represent that multiple records refer to the same patient.
Demographic-based patient deduplication
Demographic-based patient deduplication uses data points inherent to the patient. These can include first name, last name, date of birth, zip code, phone number, and Social Security Number.
We use 3-5 client-selected patient demographic data points to complete demographic-based patient deduplication. First name, last name, and date of birth are required. The final datapoint can be chosen based on data available in your source systems.
Universal Patient Identifier-based patient deduplication
Universal Patient Identifier (UPI)-based patient deduplication extends demographic-based patient deduplication. The UPI database accounts for address changes, name changes, nicknames, aliases, and accidental misspellings.
If the demographic-based patient deduplication engine can’t match a patient, we check the patient demographic info against the UPI system rather than automatically creating a new patient.
