Bill Marella is the Chief Operating Officer at Healthmonix, where he helps guide day-to-day operations, support the company’s growth, and strengthen Healthmonix’s role as a trusted partner in quality/cost analytics and value-based care. Bill brings more than two decades of experience working at the intersection of healthcare quality, medical informatics, and large-scale data integration.
Before joining Healthmonix, Bill served as Vice President of Value-Based Care and Data Analytics at HealthShare Exchange (HSX), one of the nation’s largest health information exchanges. At HSX he led major initiatives including:
- Development of PA-Navigate, a statewide closed-loop referral network for social services
- NCQA Data Aggregator Validation certification, making HSX’s data fit as standard supplemental data for HEDIS purposes
- Multi-payer claims aggregation for regional value-based programs
- And a portfolio of public-health partnerships during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bill also guided HSX’s work in data governance and developed use cases allowing HSX data to be used for research purposes.
Earlier in his career, Bill spent more than 20 years with ECRI Institute and the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority, where he helped build and lead some of the country’s most influential patient-safety reporting and analysis programs. His work spanned safety surveillance, risk-reduction collaboratives, analytics, and publishing in patient safety, quality, and risk management.
Bill holds a Master’s in Medical Informatics from Northwestern University, an MBA from West Chester University, and a Bachelor’s degree from Loyola University Maryland. Outside of work, he enjoys listening to jazz and practicing piano, reading (especially science fiction and history), cooking, and traveling with family and friends.
